Tiny Epic Pirates lijkt een klein en simpel spelletje door het kleine doosje, maar niks is minder waar. Dit is een volwaardig bordspel met enorm veel mogelijkheden. Je probeert als eerste je 3 schatten te begraven en zo te winnen. Elke beurt van een speler heeft maximaal 5 fases. Als je aan de beurt bent, verplaats je eerst je kapitein op het stuurwiel naar de gewenste actie. Je kunt bemanningsleden inzetten om grotere stappen te maken en daardoor andere acties te doen. Daarna gaat je schip, indien gewenst, zeilen en daarna voer je de actie uit. Dan volgen eventuele bonusacties en verplaats je, indien verplicht, de verschillende gevecht schepen. Om schatten te kunnen begraven, moet je goud verzamelen. Dit doe je door grondstoffen te verzamelen en verhandelen. Onderweg kun je een storm tegenkomen of aangevallen worden door andere schepen en hierdoor je bemanningsleden tijdelijk kwijtraken.

Wij vinden Tiny Epic Pirates een geweldig concept. Een klein doosje met veel materiaal van hoge kwaliteit en veel mogelijkheden tijdens de gameplay. Laat je niet misleiden door het kleine doosje en daardoor ogenschijnlijk simpele spel, want het kost wel wat tijd om het door te hebben vanwege de vele acties die mogelijk zijn. Als je dit eenmaal door hebt, speelt het vlot en erg fijn. Het is een tactisch spel waarbij verschillende tactieken tot de winst kunnen leiden. Wij vinden het tof dat het materiaal zo klein is en dat er een heel bordspel op tafel komt met een stel kaarten. Wij dachten dat alle Tiny Epic spellen hetzelfde waren, maar elk spel is totaal anders.

Tiny Epic Pirates seems like a small and simple game because of the small box, but nothing could be further from the truth. This is a fully-fledged board game with a lot of possibilities. You try to bury your 3 treasures first and win. Each player’s turn has a maximum of 5 phases. When it’s your turn, first move your captain on the steering wheel to the desired action. You can use crew members to make bigger steps and therefore do different actions. After that, your ship will sail, if desired, and then you perform the action. Then any bonus actions follow and, if required, you move the different battle ships. In order to bury treasures, you must collect gold. You do this by collecting and trading resources. Along the way, you may encounter a storm or be attacked by other ships and temporarily lose your crew members.
⭐ Our review:
We think Tiny Epic Pirates is a great concept. A small box with a lot of high-quality material and many possibilities during the gameplay. Don’t be fooled by the small box and therefore apparently simple game, because it does take some time to get the hang of it because of the many actions that are possible. Once you’ve figured this out, it plays smoothly and very nicely. It is a tactical game where different tactics can lead to the win. We love that the material is so small and that there is an entire board game on the table with a set of cards. We thought all Tiny Epic games were the same, but each game is completely different.
