First you have to choose your heroes. There are 8 to choose from, like warrior, cleric etc. Then you have to prepare the dungeon deck and add a certain number of minion cards and lair card. Finally you have to draw random boss and put it face down on the table. The game begins. In your turn you can move, do any number of free (orange) actions and do one heroic (blue) actions. The action available depend on cards, weapons, spells that your character have. If you move, you will explore new dungeon tiles. You can find traps, minions or goblins. Your goal is to find all minions, defeat them and find the Boss Lair. You have a limited number of turns to do that. After you find the lair, you have to defeat the boss (again in a limited number of turns).
The game is so fun to play. It feels not like a tiny, compact game, but rather like a big dungeon crawler. Different enemies, a lot of loot and spells to be found. Special abilities of characters, powerful and unique bosses. The game is not too long, playtime is around 60-90 minutes. There are no scenarios or campaign. Every time you have random dungeon and boss and that’s it
The production quality is great. Cool artwork, adorable enemy meeples and even hero miniatures. It all fits in a really small box. It’s a standard for this series but I’m always surprised how is it possible
The only downside are the symbols on cards. It’s not easy to understand them when playing for the first few times. Luckily Gamelyn Games published an appendix that can be found online that helps a lot by describing all the cards and their abilities.
„Tiny Epic Dungeons” is a very good fantasy game, portable and playable solo (you just need to use 2 characters). You should definitely try it if you like dungeon crawlers.
